The 21st annual EICAR Conference will take place on May 7th and 8th 2012 in Lisbon, Portugal, with a pre-conference program on May 6th. The Conference will focus on Cyber attacks and beyond.
Munich, 20 March 2012: The leading expert group in IT security Eicar is holding its annual conference in Portugal this year. The prestigious event brings together experts from industry, government, military, law enforcement, academia and research with end-users to examine and discuss new research and development in anti-virus, malware, e-security, e-forensics, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Management including the legal aspects of information technology.
The EICAR Conference 2012 shall act as a platform to clarify some of the misunderstandings, myths and unnecessary hype surrounding recent topics such as 'cybercrime', 'Information Warfare' and 'Cyber Warfare'.
"We are focusing on an important area that is relevant to not only enterprises but also public organizations and governments," said Prof. Dr. Eric Filiol, Scientific Director and Conference Chair of EICAR. "EICAR supports a wide range of initiatives in terms of technical solutions and preventive measures against writing and proliferation of malicious code such as computer viruses or Trojan Horses, and against computer crime, fraud and the misuse of computers and networks, including malicious exploitation of personal data. The institute is dealing with all kinds of technical, organizational, legal and psychological issues in the context of IT Security."
EICAR brings together expert know-how from leading scientists and academics as well as recognized researchers, official institutions and global players of the industry and offers a platform for networking. Many past innovative projects have been based on an open and authentic exchange between researchers of different backgrounds and the utilization of new collaborative relationships. EICAR wants to support independent scientific research that addresses technical issues in an unbiased way, providing the basis for applied research and commercial products. The EICAR Conferences are known for building a bridge between scientific and industry related research.
Traditionally the qualification process for papers is strict, guaranteeing a high level of interest and relevance. Wade Williamson, Senior Security Analyst with Palo Alto Networks, will analyze what role of covert channels in enterprise and malware networks. Modern malware and even legitimate network users are increasingly turning to the use of covert channels and circumventing technologies in order to avoid network security. Williamson will speak about this recent trend based on the direct analysis of malware and application behaviors in existing enterprise networks.
