WHY TASK FORCES?
The Task Forces do directly reflect the scope of work of the EICAR. Every Task Force is designed to generate results, that are helping to solve certain security issues.

The members are all key players in the focused topic. The goal is to develop best practice scenarios and guidelines with the efforts of a bundled Know-how-pool.
The following TASK FORCES are currently in place:
  • Working group 2 on Anti-Virus-Practices
  • RFID Task Force
  • Wireless LAN-Security Task Force
  • Task Force on European Cyber Crime Initiative
  • Task Force on Awareness and Education
  • Task Force on Biometrics
HOW DOES A TASK FORCE WORK LOOK LIKE?
EICAR RFID TASK FORCE
The task force first of all is providing factual information for journalists, opinion leaders and other protagonists/lobbyists.
The mid- and long-term approach is the development of a balanced and secure "best practices"-scenario, that should help all target groups to use and implement the RFID-technology.
EICAR WLAN SECURITY TASK FORCE
Actually there are several approaches by different vendors and development groups to provide wireless confidentiality. Even the upcoming Wireless LAN security standard IEEE 802.11i allows several different authentication and encryption schemes. There seems to be a lot of confusion about the pros and cons of the different implementations. A major goal of the WLAN Security Task Force shall be the categorization, security analysis and recommendation of existing solutions and to work on improvements and new alternatives.
